Ultrasound waves are used on pregnant women to view babies in the womb and for a variety of other imaging tasks. When an ultrasound wand was used to administer sound waves to patient's heads, their moods improved. Even though we can't hear them, ultrasound waves at specific frequencies appear to affect cell structures responsible for nutrition and nerve growth, plasticity and repair. Patients with chronic pain felt better, too.

The Institute of Medicine has issued new guidelines that are a bit more generous toward dietary salt consumption. The American Heart Association, concerned about salt's effects on blood pressure, isn't buying it.
